Ask before you guess

Clean, dry, then store
Dust and damp travel with your things. Wipe everything down, let it dry, and pop in a moisture absorber over summer.
Wrap the fragile stuff
Bubble wrap, butcher's paper and decent tape. Tuck small breakables in among linen and clothes.
Label and list
Label boxes on more than one side and keep a quick list on your phone. Future you says thanks.
Take it apart
Bed frames, table legs and shelving store flatter in pieces. Bag the screws and tape them to the part they belong to.
Plan the layout
Heavy at the bottom, stack up high, leave a walkway, and keep what you'll need most at the front.

Furniture
Take apart what you can and cover pieces with old sheets or furniture blankets rather than plastic, which traps moisture. Store sofas on their feet, and keep drawers shut with tape on the cover, not the finish.
Mattresses
Use a mattress bag and store it flat or on its side on a clean surface. Never put heavy boxes on top.
Books and paperwork
Use small boxes, because books get heavy fast. Pack them flat or spine down and keep them off the floor.
Clothes and linen
Wash and fully dry everything first. Vacuum bags save heaps of room, and wardrobe boxes keep good clothes hanging.
Glassware and fragile items
Wrap each piece, stand plates on their edge and fill the gaps so nothing rattles. Mark the box fragile and keep it on top.
Fridges and appliances
Defrost and dry fridges and freezers, then leave the door ajar with a towel inside. Electronics travel best in their original boxes if you still have them.
Tools, bikes and metal
A light wipe of oil keeps rust away in the humidity. Hang bikes or stand them against a wall so they don't topple.
Mowers and outdoor gear
Clean off grass and dirt, and empty the fuel first. Fuel, gas bottles and other flammables can't be stored.

Can I book online?
Storage availability changes regularly, so we confirm every space personally. Call 07 4724 3424 or email info@southtownsvilleselfstorage.com and we'll find the right fit, then you can sign the agreement online.
When can I access my storage?
Any time. Your personal PIN code gives you 24/7 access to the site, and the facility has security lighting throughout.
How do I pay?
You'll receive your invoice by email and can pay online. There are no admin or move-in fees.
How much notice do I need to give?
We ask for 30 days' notice when you're ready to move out. We'll miss you, but we understand.
Do you have boat and caravan storage?
Yes, we offer car, boat and caravan storage in Townsville. We have outdoor yard bays, covered carports and indoor bays for vehicles up to 6 m long and 2.5 m wide. Larger boats, caravans and trucks can go in the outdoor yard, with pricing on request.
What can't I store?
Anything hazardous, dangerous, illegal, stolen, perishable, environmentally harmful or explosive. That means no fuel, gas bottles, chemicals or food. Irreplaceable valuables like cash, jewellery, important documents and artwork shouldn't be stored unless they're itemised and insured.
Do I need insurance?
Your goods are stored at your own risk, so we recommend taking out storage insurance for peace of mind.

We're staffed by appointment. Get in touch and we'll arrange a time to meet you on site.
